Ian:

In general terms I am satisfied with their service. I have found their tech
people to be concerned with my problems, and they try to do a good job.
Based on what I read on the omega-list they are probably as good as any
other. Some people seem to think E-Signal is better than PC Quotes and
others have an opposite opinion. In regards to your specific questions:

1) In my opinion yes. (After these answers I will address the topic on
using the internet for data)
2) None that I know of.
3) None that I know of.

I do not feel that I get more symbol ticks delivered to me than other
internet services. I think on some days I may get a few more and on other
days a few less.

One of the biggest problems I have had receiving their data is related to
the internet itself. Personally I think the internet has a long way to go
before it can be considered stable. There are too many things that cause it
to go down, slow down, etc. All of the following may have problems that
will cause you to lose data: ISP, PC Quote, your telephone lines, troubles
on the internet itself, etc. All these can, and do, cause a loss of ticks
at one time or another.

For example, I have a ADSL line provided by Verizon. One day Verizon had
some kind of trouble in California (I live in Texas) and I could not access
the internet for almost 24 hours. Just recently I stopped receiving data
at 11:53 A.M. and did not start receiving data again till sometime in the
early morning next day. Sometimes when I stop receiving data I look to see
how many hops it take to connect to the PC Quote server and find that the
number of hops has increased from 9 to 17. PC Quote has the following to
say about this:

This situation arises whenever your routing through the Internet is too
slow to maintain a real time dialogue with our server (referring to being
disconnected from their server). They go on to say that if you do a trace
route and any of the different routers that you are going through to reach
their server (number of hops) is spiking over (approximately) 400ms
(milliseconds) in any spot, It could be a sign that your internet connection
is too slow to keep up with our data stream.

Sometimes my ISP has problems, and sometimes PC Quote has problems.

Again my basic feeling is that the "Internet" as a whole needs to improve
considerably before it will be trouble free.

One of the things I do like about PC Quote is they have a HyperFeed log that
will tell you when you have been disconnected and continues to tell you
that the server is trying to reconnect, and tells you when you have been
reconnected.

Once I see that I have been disconnected I basically have four places I need
to look at to try and determine where the problem is. They are PC Quote's
server, my ISP (which includes my ADSL provider), my computer (TS 2000i),
and the internet as a whole. One of the things that has helped me to
determine which is the problem, in a short period of time, is called Vital
Agent IT. This program will show you where the problem is almost
immediately. Vital Agent IT is a free program from Lucent Technologies and
is downloadable at
http://www.ins.com/software/vitalsuite/vitalagentit/downloadagent.asp .

Normally when I get disconnected it is only for a few seconds (usually one
or two).

As you can see I feel that most of the problems are with the internet, not
the data providers.

Hope this helps.

David
