Before receiving my B8080 I asked DTN and Omega tech support a few
questions. Mine arrived this week and will install it Friday PM. Here is
what dtn tech support and omega said:.
1. Chameleon is the only software that works on the ethernet port.
2. Not even Ensign will work on the ethernet port and they have been in bed
with DTN longer than anyone. Strange.
3. USB port is not functional only the RS232 and etherlink.
4. DTN says the Omega Global Server can't keep up with the data even with a
highspeed port because there is no handshaking. Apparantly Chameleon does
communicate with the receiver after initialization. Wonder how a Omega GS
on a dual 600 cpu will handle it?
5. Omega says they have no plans for supporting the ethernet port, rather
they said there are no plans for a significant modification to the build 5.
Read that as dead end product.
5. The receiver is supposed to ship with a new LNB, but the old LNB will
work if it is rotated 90 degrees to satisfy the polarization of the new
satellite signal. Manual with the new receiver doesn't mention this since
it is expected to come with the new LNB. It does mention the polarization.
Only difference in the LNB's is the orientation of the tunnel diod in the
cavity.
6. Manual is labeled as D8000, but the receiver is labeled as B8080.
