I rename symbols a lot as I build continuous contracts. I DO make
backups at every step in the process, but so far TS4 has been OK in
renaming. There have been some errors, but these have been mine in
screwing up a step in the process.
It does seem to take a while. I wish there was a way to fool TS about
the actual contents.
