I have had the problem and it was caused by duplicate drivers. Compaq
support took me through a procedure in safe mode the eliminated the extra
drivers and that solved the problem. On thing is I have not been able to
duplicate it (when I delete the extra ones they reload on the re-boot??),
since intermittently I still have the problem. Best way I have found to
avoid this is to close everything down before you shut down.
