Might be different this time. Registration of programs in Windows 2000
differs from the other versions. Thus, updating to windows 2000 will give
you some programs that work, that will not work if you install them from
scratch.
On the other hand, running something that you could not reinstall if
neccessary is not a terrific choice, so if you are moving to 2000, probably
better install everythinh from scratch.
