It would seem that the latest 'Omega man' thread has brought out many more
damaging negative messages than would have been here had he not tried to
'defend' Omega. I understand his point, and, in a theoretical/technical
sense, he is right. But IMHO it misses the larger picture, and some of the
real world.
Perhaps a better approach for shills (or shill-look-alikes) is:
(1) Lister complains about a problem, sometimes even showing some of
his/her frustration :-). Bound to happen...
(2) Shill trys to address *only* a way to fix the problem, or implement a
work-around, never mentioning how "Omega can do no wrong."
(3) If shill has no solution, and still feels as though a post is
necessary, she/he does not post anything suggesting "Omega is..."
I believe PO and others have much knowledge that could help us all if it
were put in problem-solving messages. Some of these folks are, after all,
*solution* providers. Besides, the advertising might help them :-).
Or, how about:
(1) in lieu of a problem, the shill could 'talk up' a product by showing
a better/non-obvious/faster/etc way of doing something that is
currently being discussed on the list. I realize this could be abused,
but I'm sure the list folks would speak up about trivial/advertising-only
messages :-).
Anyone could do this, of course, but if shills restricted their messages
to these approaches, it might diminish the negative threads that arise
fairly often. It would seem that 'Omega can do no wrong' does not go over
well in the face of so many problems...
Your thoughts? Might this improve the list?
