Customers are producers. They produce something very important to the
manufacturer. Money.
In exchange for money, there is an implied contract between the
manufacturer and the consumer; namely, that the product works as represented.
If there are defects in the product, the consumer has the right (some might
say the obligation) to complain and expect the problem to be corrected.
If I understand your reasoning (which, I may not), if an airplane producer
manufactures a defective airplane and I'm injured by it, I have no right to
complain unless I can make a better one.
In a society, citizens produce that which they are able to. They trade for
those items they want using money as a medium. Works pretty well. Better
than trying to do open-heart surgery on yourself.
