have to say that running under NT 4 SP5 on a 400 MHz AMD K6 processor with
256 MB of RAM, TS2Ki is more solid than TS4 was under WIN98 on a P100 with
64 Mb of RAM.

Dear List,

I find it sort of funny that there is so much discussion about the NT vs 98
choice. If you are trying to run TS2K on something less than the above
configuration, you are most likely going to have problems (maybe big
problems). The computer mentioned above can be had for less than $700
dollars. NT sells for less than $200. For less than a grand you can have all
the hardware you need to be a trader (maybe a bad trader, but a trader) add
a data feed and you are good to go. What other business could you get
involved in where the cost of equipment is so low. 5 years ago a setup like
the one mentioned above would have been well over 10K if you could have even
purchased something that advanced.

I have been using NT on a very similar computer for over 6 months now, and
will also vouch for the fact that ts2000 is stable under NT. You can crash
now and then. The tradestation part of the program crashes every couple
weeks, but if you leave Word running 24/7, it will probably crash once and a
while too. With NT these TS2000 crashes are non events. Global server is
very solid and usually I just stop the charting part of the program and
restart that, ( this takes a few seconds, not several minutes as with
WIn98). There is no need to reboot the whole computer with NT. You dont lose
data as long as the Global server keeps running. This is NOT POSSIBLE under
Win98. You have to reboot the entire machine with 98, (Global Server
included). I have posted this to the list many times, WIN98 and TS2000 do
not work well together, some would argue they dont work at all. I am of that
opinion. NT isnt any harder than Win 98 either to install or learn. There
may be video driver problems with some cards but I have a Diamond and ATI
card and both work fine.

One trade in the S&P or the bonds could easily pay for the computer
mentioned above. If you think of yourself as a professional trader, get a
professional OS.
