Reducing Size of Intraday Dat File

Can someone tell me how to reduce the size of my intraday file.  It is
now 269 MB and has data going back further than I need.

I tried deleting data, which I first copied out to save it if i ever
need it again.  The copied file was 40 MB but the original file did not
get smaller.  What am I doing wrong?
