I agree with most of what you say, but if you've built a better mousetrap 
(and you happen to have a warehouse filled with them), and people want to buy 
them...why not sell them? Indeed, I've given systems to clients to use as 
they wish. They feel it has saved them money compared to what they bought 
commercially and relative to their own discretionary performance. If you sell 
something to an inexperienced trader, and it helps him make money, or even 
just survive a little longer, is that bad?

I've been happily sharing ideas and code for years. I find it ironic that a 
prominent member of the list told me just the opposite as you: don't give out 
your best ideas. Keep them to yourself. 

You mention Mark Brown. Doesn't Mark Brown himself SELL (that evil word)
