David,
I just got reinstated on this list, so if I say something here that has
recently been mentioned I apologize. Here are some things that have helped
me get 2000i going. I have had big problems and literally have been working
on it all weekend. I hope something here will help you. The most important
thing if you are running R/T is to disable the R/T data feed templates for
data gathering in the global server. Forget about loading the 45,000 symbols
and trying to run (and update) all of them R/T. Automatic portfolio updating
is a fantastic thing, but I believe that my machine would literally explode
where it sits at the open in the morning if I captured them all. Just start
with manually entering one symbol and slowly start building your R/T
portfolio again. If you are going to backtest, try not to set that up on
your R/T machine with this build. Also, check your com port in control
panel/system/ for same baud rates and settings of your data feed. I did the
CDROM and complete download from historywhatever.com and afterwards it takes
global server about 30 minutes to initialize all those symbols after
rebooting. You'll save a lot of time by doing a little at a time. Also,
re-boot. My 2000i has done some strange things that I honestly have never
seen in a program. A reboot has fixed it. Without the 45,000 symbols in the
portfolio my reboots and initialization is much faster. No doubt, it's
buggy. I still do not trust it yet so I have 4 running. After digging around
in 2000 I can see where it's headed. I really like the interactivity with
Excel without DDE. Hope something here helps.
Eddie
