This article is nothing but sensationalized hype. The reporter was assigned
to cover a minor trial that had a snowball's chance in Hell of making any
difference to anyone. So, why not add a little spice?
>
>The regulations say anyone who, "for compensation or profit, engages in the
>business of advising others" through electronic media such as the Internet
>must register with the government.
This contradicts the next statement. Which is it - for profit or a list of
hyperlinks? They're not the same at all. The "for instance" is not even
close to illustrative of the point.
As an example, the agency says an owner
>of a Web site with "a list of hyperlinks" recommending other Web sites must
>register -- or go to jail.
Jail for a list of hyperlinks? HAHAHA! What a JOKE!
I live in Canada. Are they going to send the CIA to kidnap me, or extradite
me to the USA if I do that? I have a friend in eastern Europe. He'd
publish anything I asked him to on a website. Will they drag him to the US
to face a trial, too? Oooh.....Scary!!
The CFTC regulates a *portion* of the world's futures industry. Not all of
it. They certainly don't regulate the internet, no matter how important
they think they are.
Sounds like the raffle ticket drive didn't go over too well and it's time
for a membership drive.
