I'll pass on the legal stuff, litigation is not my cup of tea. There are lots of
us looking hard at alternative products such as TradeLab and WOW DayTrader Pro
... lots in the pipeline but, like TS5, nothing you can load and run. All
software feature lists sound great ... at least until the rubber hits the road.
There is one major shift going on in the trading software industry - many of the
major vendors are signing on to use the Universal Market Data Server v3.0
(www.uniserv.com) - over a dozen at last count and several more not yet listed.
Industry will likely end up with two major software data server camps ... most
vendors on UMDS and Omega on it's proprietary TS5 server ... I think this is a
very significant shift. If you think about it, not having to develop a server
and do a half-dozen data feeds opens opportunities for a lot more product and
add-on developers. Bottom line, TS and SC are feature laden products with good
market momentum however it's been my experience that quality control and support
leave a lot to be desired. The next 12-18 months will see a host of new 32-bit
products loaded with features, new servers, new data feeds, and portability for
EL code. Time will tell how it all shakes out, but this is a great time to begin
kicking tires. As for missed data for contracts expiring beyond 1999, data can
be purchased later unless you have to trade them now.
