Omega, Y2K, and all that stuff

First I have the flame retardant suit on so Mark and friends can have at.

I read once that Reality:

Isn't the way things ought to be,
Isn't the way we'd like them to be,
But in fact are the way they are.

There's been a lot of comments about how bad Omega is because they don't care
about there customers. Can't disagree, but whats the reality. Reminds me of
the last company I worked for, major Oil Field Service Company. Their
corporate motto was something to the effect that "Our purpose is to help our
customers find Oil and Gas". Yeah right. Their purpose was profitability and
income. Period end of discussion. Most companies, Omega included are no
different, which brings us to the Y2K problem. Right now I'd suspect that
Omega's customers fall into two camps. Some who already are dealing with the
problem with the leaps and other long range products, and a lot like myself
who just trade futures or stocks, and so yet to feel any effect. Clearly if
it was affecting me I'd be screaming also. But its not so I can wait. So
now I put my "What would I do if I were Omega" hat on.

Suppose they put their staff on the Y2K problem patch fix for TS4.0
first. Sure would please a number of customers, but does it generate any
revenue. Nope. So they work on getting TS5.0 out first as thats the life
blood of future revenue. Once that revenue stream is ensured, then they can
go back and do the patch to 4.0. Will that hack off and cost them a
percentage of existing customers? Sure it will, but as a business that is
something that they have to live with. This is a decision all managements
have to make.

I would like to close with a couple of questions:

1st. Out of curiousity, those who''ve indicated they have talked with
Lawyers. Did the lawyers say there was some way around the disclaimers on the
envelope we all agreed to when we opened the package. Been a long time since
I read it, but seemed like we agreed to not holding Omega liable.

2nd. Assuming of course one is trading profitably and assuming the Y2K
problem is affecting you now, If I was in that category, I'd already have
another platform up and running side by side. Sure you shouldn't have to,
but if your making good money, the cost is cheap insurance. So my question to
those who feel an immediate threat, what other actions are you talking. I
ask, because down the road others of us may be facing those choices.

                                           Pete
