I've tried to stay out of all this, but I cannot help not saying
something here. There is no comparison between the rudimentary
EL development and VB's IDE, to say nothing of the limited features
of EL and the state of its documentation. If you thought only
of debugging, then you couldn't make the switch to a real language
fast enough. A switch from EL to VB will not solve an inherent
lack of programming skills, but the choices of methods to cure
one's lack of programming skills are better, to understate the
obvious.

EL debugging is circa 1960's. Everyone with any serious programming
intentions will be enthusiastic about the improvement in less than
a day of use. You can still debug the EL way, if you really, really
prefer to put in a maze of print statements.
