Sir, you are correct.  I would only add that the printer driver for your 
printer has to support network printing.  Take for example, the new HP 
Laserjet  3100.  They're great machines except for one critical flaw - they 
don't support network printing.  While many do, don't assume your printer 
supports network printing.  Check it out with the manufacturer before 
investing.

A printer connected to a parallel port on one machine can be given the
'Share' attribute which will allow the other machine to print to it. The
network will handle it all.

BTW, the network protocol to use for all of this is NetBEUI. It's fast and
easy to set up.
