My understanding is that the limitation on the number of monitors in Win-98
is determined by available resources. You need a separate slot on your
main-board for each video card that will support each additional monitor.
You also need an individual IRQ for each of the video cards. There are only
a total of 16 IRQs available on any PC and more than half of these are
reserved and normally not available for additional devices. In other words,
you might be lucky if you have one or two IRQs available for additional
video cards. Many new machines today have none available.
A much better way to go is one of the multi-monitor boards that are
available. They require only one slot and support up to 4 monitors and, in
some cases, require only one IRQ and in other cases, no IRQs.
