Actually C was invented by Ritchie, Kernighan and Thomson and was largely
ignored by Bell Labs until way too late. By the time Bell Labs got around
to marketing C and Unix adequately, there were dozens upon dozens of
compilers to choose from, a lot of them better than the Bell Labs stuff.
