In a message dated 98-05-11 13:01:00 EDT, you write:

<< Actually C was invented by Ritchie, Kernighan and Thomson and was largely
ignored by Bell Labs until way too late. By the time Bell Labs got around
to marketing C and Unix adequately, there were dozens upon dozens of
compilers to choose from, a lot of them better than the Bell Labs stuff.

Correct.

In fact, Bell labs pulled out of the project in 1968/1969.
The first version of UNIX (called UNICS) was written by Ken Thompson. Later,
he and Ritchie (who wrote the first 'C' compiler) rewrote Unix in 'C'.

What a wealth of useless information there is to be found on this list.

Only kidding.
