Andrew,
Have you tried Medved's QuoteTracker as a front end for any broker
(such as Interactive Brokers)?
I don't use IB or the Medved product, but I've been following the
user groups for both of these on the Silicon Investor web site. While
you can see for yourself how users feel, it looks like most users are
as satisfied as anyone ever gets with the Medved software.

Medved QuoteTracker is a Windows Freeware program that provides
streaming Real-Time quotes, Multi-day Live intraday charts with
Technical Indicators, Level II quotes, Time and Sales, alerts, news
monitoring, and everything else you may need to effectively trade in
today's market. Full Integrated Trading is supported through many
brokers. You can trade through your own broker using QuoteTracker
direct access interface. Order Entry and transaction monitoring is
drastically faster.
