on the zig zag but Joe said the MS files say the peak and trough function is
exactly the same as the zig zag, and therefore, they have exactly the same
problems. Knowing that, I'm not going to write anymore experts with them
because I don't like the zig zag function the way I've seen it used. It
misleads some people<SPAN

<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>Just to clarify, I didn't say that the MS files said that Peak
and Trough were exactly the same as Zig Zag.  I said that
they were based on Zig Zag so the same principals apply -
meaning the Peak and Trough indicators can change in the future when
new bars and printed.

<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>Specifically, here is what the MS help file
says:

<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>Under Peak, for example it says:

 <FONT
color=#0000ff size=2>"This uses the Zig Zag function (see Zig Zag) to determine
the peaks."
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>Then under Zig Zag is says:
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>"Be forewarned, that the last leg (i.e., segment) of the Zig Zag is
dynamic, meaning that it can change.  Therefore, be careful when designing
system tests, experts, etc. based on the Zig Zag
indicator."
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>Thus, to the extent that you relied on the "Free Expert" and went back in
time to look at what the signals "would have been", they could be different than
what actually printed on the chart on those bars at the time.  It is likely
that some of the signals changed as new bars were being printed off on the
chart.  It will be interesting to see, as you follow the chart "live"
how the signals compare when you go back and look at it again a week from
now.  Remember, you have to take the reading before a new bar prints
because the next bar could change the signal.  In your case, you can't just
wait until the end of the day and go back and look at the chart to see how the
30 min bars looked.  For this reason alone, you'll probably end up scraping
that Expert until it is fixed.
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>Have you thought about trying the Zig Zag validity (I think
that is what he called it) indicator that Spyros wrote?  It
actually removes the dynamic aspects from the Zig Zag
indicator and makes it valid for Experts, backtesting,
etc.
