Hi Harry,
The "white" rectangular screen probably indicates that the processor is being tied up and the video is not being refreshed on the screen. Check what's running in the background and the speed of your video card and processor. The speed problem you are indicating is not normal. The sort problem for deleting files is. If you were using XP as your operating system you couldn't even get a list...only icons of your securities.
