VIX was working nicely until a couple years 
ago.
 
I am actually quite impressed by the work done 
by Thomas Bulkowski in his book, "Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns".  He 
tested dozens and highlighted several valid (and profitable) 
patterns.  I recently used his parameters to identify the entry and target 
on a move out of a bullish flag pattern in the Canadian dollar (see 
chart).
