I use QuoteMonster which is a 14KB PERL script written by Jim Michael
<genepool@xxxxxxxxxx>. Because it is a free utility, he doesn't give tech
support for it. You can download QM here: http://xmlworks.com/quotemonster/
. There is a link for support on a newsgroup there.

You must also install PERL. PERL is free and you can find the link on that
page. BEWARE, PERL has a very large number of files: 2540 files and 377
folders, 21 MB. End users really shouldn't have to download the full PERL
install. I don't know if it's still the same, since I installed in Dec.
'98. When I first installed PERL, I didn't use the folders switch in my ZIP
software. In Windows, if a program places more than 512 files (I believe) in
the base folder of any partition, it will literally push all of your other
folders and files right out. When I first installed PERL, I watched it push
out (erase) my Metastock install and my stock database. Luckily I always
make a copy of the full partition so no damage.

You must also make a few simple changes to the 14KB QM script (Metastock
header for Vol, OHLC, mostly). If you get the PERL and QM install correct,
then after getting the Yahoo data you must use the MetaStock Downloader to
incorporate the data. No matter which package you use to obtain the Yahoo
ASCII data, you must always go through the MS Downloader. As you can see,
using QM is for advanced users. Still, it's not that complicated and it IS
free. If you feel you can't complete the installs, then perhaps you should
get one of the packages mentioned by the other listserv members here. This
email will be all the support I can give you.

Daniel.
