Lynn,

I did close Metastock the first time I updated the symbol file. And the second
time I updated it that day.
Today I tried again, following these steps:

Delete SymbolDatabase70.dta from The DownLoader folder.
Open Metastock and choose "Update Symbol Database".
Close Metastock.
Open Metastock Professional.
Open eSignal folder.
Under "Options", select "View by name".
Type Standard & Poor's 500. Result is Standard & Poor's 500 with start time of
9:44 am and end time of 3:36 pm. (Times are Eastern.)
Under "Options", select "View by symbol".
Type L. (Lean Hogs). Result is Lean Hogs with a start time of 8:08.
Type NQ (NASDAQ E-Mini). Result is that there is no symbol NQ.
Type ES (S&P500 E-Mini). Result is EASCO (NYSE). There is no E-Mini.
Close Metastock.
Take a deep breath and mutter something unintelligible.
Delete SymbolDatabase70.dta from The DownLoader folder again.
Delete SymbolDatabase70.dta from the recycle bin.
Shut off computer for 30 seconds.
Reboot and open Metastock.
Select "Update Symbol database".
Close Metastock.
Reopen Metastock.
Same results as above.
Select File|New Security in last ditch effort for some good news.
Search for same securities and get same results for S&P500 and Lean Hogs. For
ES and NQ, I get the message "No securities match search criteria."

I am not going to spend anymore time on this. I have restored my modified
symbol database from my zip drive.

Regards,
Ken
