Most destructive and fast-spreading e-mail bug in history poised to bite
All Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express Users Vulnerable
ICSA.net releases cure for virus
RESTON, VA., July 18, 2000-Today a malicious e-mail security bug was revealed to the public that affects an estimated 100 million Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express users. ICSA.net, the leading Internet security assurance services company, has quickly developed preliminary steps to protect users from any potential threats capitalizing on the security gap.
In Microsoft Outlook, the virus is activated when the user previews, reads, forwards or replies to the malicious e-mail. In Outlook Express, the virus is automatically activated when it reaches the mail server. The vulnerability does not require any user action, such as clicking an attachment or even opening or reading the email, enabling it to potentially spread much faster than previous email-borne viruses. The malicious code would take control of the computer before the user even had a chance to read and delete the email!!
