RE: 'Low System Resources' Error Messages while running MetaStock
I created a shortcut on my QuickStart Bar at the bottom of my screen for the
'System Information' applet, so that it was super accessible. Upon bringing
it up, the first info screen you'll see includes '% System Resources Free.'
After a fresh boot, the '% System Resources Free' for my hardware/software
configuration shows a value of 77%.
Then, with any software activity, loading, unloading, **anything**, the %
steadily decreases over time.
With regard to MetaStock, and 'Low System Resources' messages suddenly
appearing, there seem to be two threshold numbers of interest:
a) % free just prior to loading MetaStock.
b) % free after all charts are loaded, and/or
when you start paging through your charts,
how low this number drops to.
Tentatively, if (a) >= 60%, I'm able to open, and page through, my most
complicated multi-page 'Layout.'
If (b) falls to below around 5%, either while bringing up Layout, or while
paging through it (each and every time you hit that Ctrl-tab takes up a bit
more precious %), the 'Low System Resources' error message will start to
appear in MetaStock.
If (b) falls to 1%, system starts falling apart, and that's the last chance
to exit MetaStock before total freeze up.
Even after quitting **every** program running, '% System Resources Free'
still will remain relatively low. In order to bring % back up to healthy
levels, one must reboot the computer.
These have been my recent experiences that I wanted to share.
Any comments appreciated.
