Hi CMA
The $10CDN or $8US was the handling fee on a special free upgrade offer by
Microsoft to get people to buy Excel 97 between Christmas 1998 and the
release of Excel 2000 in late spring. The offer expired at the end of July
'99, I believe.

PS: unless you want to do web work with Excel or are into pivot tables etc.
the upgrade to Excel 2000 is questionable even at $10. Let's hope that the
MS 7.0 upgrade is a little more than a "minor" pop with a $100+ price tag
and a handful of "gee-wiz" indicators.
