CMA,
yes, the MS Office 2000 upgrade offer expired 7/31/99. Since I was able to buy
MS Office Pro 97 for a total of $75 via EBAY, I went ahead and also obtained
the upgrade. I have not installed 2000 yet so I don't know if there's much of
a difference. My guess is there are major differences in Outlook 2000 because
Outlook 97 is garbage. The only reason why I'd even install Office Pro 2000 is
because I don't have any books about Office and if I purchased any, they would
cover 2000 not 97. CompUSA had a deal with the "Special" Edition books
covering 2000 before I obtained it and I hope they repeat the offer.
MetaStock 7 does have one major difference I am aware of: When you use
realtime quotes and enter a ticker, you get several days worth of intra-day
data and you don't have to wait for a history as in v6.52. Although this may
seem a small difference, on a practical basis, it's enough to upgrade for.
When you are in the thick of it and you are switching to other symbols, you
want to see the history immediately.
However, you may be surprised to learn Metastock v7 will NOT be Level 2
capable. You must still rely on eSignal software for that. Let's hope MS 7 is
at least capable of email alerts. There are a number of capabilities MS 7
should have, but I doubt it will:
1. Creating diffusion indicators, indicators where you go through a list of
stocks and "count" or add them depending on the type of indicator. An
indicator of all the stocks in a list above their 20 or 30 day moving average
is one example. Investor's Intelligence uses this indicator. Another example
is all the stocks in a list creating a McClellan Oscillator/Summation Index or
Advance/Decline line. This is not that sophisticated but I doubt Equis will
add this capability. The only way I could do this would be to learn C++, VB,
or VBA, and also how to access the QP2 database.
Through my tracking of stocks using other software, I have learned that the
averages, which are usually capitalization-based, don't always give a true
picture of what is happening. Yesterday and, to some extent, today are good
examples. Even though breadth and the Nasdaq were down, yesterday was one of
the best days I've seen for small cap Net stocks. Today, 21 Net stocks were up
9.2% or more with only 5 down that much or more. Yet, I saw no news mentioning
this and anyone relying on breadth or the indexes would not have noticed.
2. Outputting a list of stocks after an Exploration for use in a new
Exploration. This has been asked for many times but never added.
3. When you create an indicator with multiple lines, all of the lines are the
same color. It would be helpful if you could specify colors for each line.
4. Find. I mentioned this before. Some of the support routines are
primitive. Every time I do a search, I must first go to the MetaStock data
files folder. MS should remember this so I don't have to bother. This is very
simple and I am surprised it hasn't been done yet.
5. Multiple inner windows in inner windows. Sometimes I like to see certain
sets of inner windows, not all of them and not just one. I would like to click
"Expand" in the upper right corner and see 3 or 4 inner windows at once
quickly.
6. Equis will NEVER add this capability, LOL: Direct access to the
Quotes-Plus 2.1 database. I wish they would. It would make things much easier
and scans much faster. Sometimes I wish I could get special treatment. Oh
well. <G>
