I too have added the DSL service and I have not had much luck with improved
speed in downloads. I went to several of the links from the previous thread
on connections that was sent by Walter. I downloaded several programs.
After adding Download Accelerator ver 3.5, a Free program, my downloads went
from approximately 4 Kb/sec to 40 to 56 Kb/sec and very similar 36 to 46
Kb/sec results over my LAN using Wingate as the proxy server.
These results are from peak internet traffic time and not off peak results.
Below is a copy of the read me file from the program Download Accelerator
ver 3.5 (Service Pack 1). It has the URL at the bottom of the page.
This is a nice little program that would help any download.

"Download accelerator" is improving the download speed up to 300% faster (of
FTP
and HTTP protocols) using more than one connection for the same file
(retrieving
fragments of the file simultaneously when available), while showing
advertisements (GIF89) to the user from a cache directory.
"Download accelerator" is a software that is plugged into the users default
browsers
(IE4, NETSCAPE 4 and above), on windows 95/98/NT4 platforms.
The software will be triggered automatically when the user is trying to
download
a file from the net. It is NOT running all the time and taking system
resources.
