INVESTOR SENTIMENT SURVEY
5 / 31 / 99
brought to you by Investormap.com

------------------------------------------------
Below are the results of our weekly "Guess the Dow" sentiment
survey. The survey was taken from 5/24 through 5/30 on the
Lowrisk.com web site.
Number of participants: 361
30 day outlook:
21% bullish, 41% last week
59% bearish, 41% last week
20% neutral, 19% last week
(percentages may not sum to 100 due to rounding)
Median guess for the DJIA closing value on Friday, 6/4: 10,394 (it
was 10,858 last week). More complete sentiment data is available at:
Last week the DJIA dropped almost 270 points. As one would suspect,
there was an increase in bearishness in our weekly sentiment
numbers. In fact, the increase in bears was rather dramatic. Bearish
sentiment rose 18% to 59%. This is the highest bearish reading since
9/13/98. Bullish sentiment dropped 20% to end at 21%. Neutral
sentiment was almost unchanged at 20%. Even given the market's
weakness in the last few weeks, in our experience this level of
bearishness is generally seen very close to market bottoms.
Last week we issued a plea for greater participation in our weekly
sentiment survey. Participation did increase quite a bit, even
more impressive since it was a holiday weekend. Please keep it up!
This sentiment report is completely free, but it will only continue
to be useful if the participation continues. Please stop by to take
part in this weeks survey at: http://www.lowrisk.com/guess.htm
best regards,
Jeff Walker
