In Metastock:
-click File|Open
-go to the folder where your data files are stored
-in the Open dialog window at the bottom halve:
choose the right "File Type" eg either
-Smart Chart
-Chart
-Layout
Charts and Layout are physical stand alone files, eg registered file types
in Windows95+ .
Smart Charts are securities only, eg virtual files using the F*.DTA
Downloader files, that are stored in your data base folder.
My guess is that your Open dialog window constantly uses the last file type
used, and for that you are shown the Chart or Layout as File Type where
Smart Chart should have been applied. Just click the small square arrow box
on the right, the give the File Type Options, and choose Smart Chart.
