Guy, there are a few workarounds:

The Excel Cell Editor (formulas+references etc.) displays a Link as follows:

{=MetaStock.Chart|'D:\Ms\AexOptie\OLE\AEX-index.mwc'!'\AEX-index»Ind/Sec«254»¶'}

where :
{ } = Comment start+end (indicating that what is placed
between characters is a comment, not a formula etc.)
                      =MetaStock.Chart = Source Object Type
                                  | = Separator (Pipe)
'D:\Ms\AexOptie\OLE\AEX-index.mwc' = Path+FileName+Extension between Inverted Commas
                                  ! = Separator (Exclamation)
'\AEX-index»Ind/Sec«254»¶' = Object Item and is made up of the \slashFileName,
                                                                               the »Object Type and «ObjectNo.#» (=unique #) and
followed by the ¶ character (CR), all placed between
                                                                               Inverted Commas.

Workarounds:
1. In Excel you can change the source for an OLE-link :
-On the WorkMenu click Edit|Link|Change Source
-Rename the Sources' FileName and also the Object Items' FileName,
so as the double(2x) changes are then always made.
No need to change this in the Cells' Editor as that won't work(=formulas only)
or
2. In the Downloader delete the old records, but keep the security and chart
(eg do not use a "time or series" reference in their name, suppose you
are able to only make such a change to the Tickersymbol only)
-Select a sheets total Data Records by 1x clicking on the empty grey
square corner right above row #1-figure 1
-On the WorkMenu click Tools|Delete|Data (and it will have either the first
or the last day pre-selected for you) and apply the appropiate option for
deleting all Data Records "before" or "after" the date that is presented
(note that you can use a fixious date like 19590101 and do a Data
Records-deletion session for multiple secs in one GO by selecting the
           more secs)
-Check that the security's Tickersymbol(s) are in agreement with the Tickers
received in data files from your Data Vendors(eg the "equivelant" security)
-Start the Convert-Tool to update the Data Records for and to the above
           (previously deleted data records) security(s)
