I've been asked to put this out for comments.
Attached is a sample spreadsheet that contains no macros or code or
anything. It's just documentation as to what approach we would take in
making a generalized approach to the "data download situation".
Even though it is organized with Futures contracts listed, it could just as
easily be stocks, funds, etc. Please ignore the contract symbols and "think"
of your own symbols.
This is just the start of things and the items on the layout page will
increase as time goes on.
I also envision a toolbar totally devoted to this project: a buttons to fire
up the download process; a button to maintain the symbol list (and the
sheets that will contain the data); a button to fire up a
form that will show most of the parametric info on the layout; etc.
The "download" worksheet allows easy insertion or deletion of stocks, funds,
contracts, etc. ROWS
Each stock, fund or contract will have a separate worksheet, i.e.,
"SymbolAAA", SymbolZZZ", etc.
The "layout" worksheet lists possible things and actions the workbook will
do.
For those of you with larger universes of tradeables (250) pages per
workbook, other approaches or workarounds will need to be suggested.
One "Trading system" workbook is in the works that will be designed to "call
up" the data worksheet from a drop down list rather than endless duplication
of indicators etc..
