I am not familiar with the program/service you mention but I do have a
problem with some layouts that will load exceedingly slow, i.e. half the
layout will load and then some 60 seconds later the rest loads. This
appears to take place in memory.
EOD
I had the 12/29/98 build for Metastock v6.52 after applying the patch at
that time. Because the newest Equis patch requires that I uninstall
MetaStock, I spent the last 12 hours uninstalling/reinstalling. I
applied the latest patch available on the Net which brought my MetaStock
v6.52 build to 2/6/99. Unfortunately, this did not help with the
freezing problem I am having while using QP2 Virtual data. I
uninstalled MetaStock again, reinstalled and I now have the original
9/11/97 build for v6.5. Virtual does NOT seem to have any trouble
with v6.5.

However, Quotes-Plus Virtual MUST also be compatible with the latest
MetaStock builds because these patches not only make MetaStock Y2K
compliant, but they also fix a problem with the "Chart Tips"
and Windows 98. These are the yellow boxes which show up when you
put the cursor over any line or bar. Chart Tips will not show
correctly in Windows 98 without applying one of these patches.
Also, the patches bring a crucial new feature to
the MetaStock System Tester. This is the main reason why I
want to use the patch. Please make your Virtual program work
correctly with the newest MetaStock v6.52 build. You do NOT have to
contact Equis to obtain these patches. All users may download these
patches from their web site at:
http://www.equis.com/customer/support/files/updates.html#mseod

If you still have MetaStock End-Of-Day v6.5, you should use this
file: MSW652.EXE
http://www.equis.com/customer/support/files/download/MSW652.EXE

Because most MetaStock users can easily obtain these patches, they
probably have already applied them. I, and many other users,
applied the first 12/29/98 patch the first week it became available.

For the first question I have reported this problem to our data
department
and will research this problem. There is no problem with the
program and
windows 98 as we have 98 on multiple systems here at the office and have
no
problem. The statement by the Microsoft tech that the problem is in
our
software is false, this tech isn't familiar with our software and does
not
have access to our data and programming department to verify this
statement.
>From the data you have given me the problem started on the upgrade to

metastock and
research this problem I don't have an immediate fix for you. You
can try to
call metastock and relay the problem you are having and they may have an

immediate fix as the problem appears to exist with the new version and a

possible incompatibility with the virtual metastock that has been working

fine in the previous version.
Quotes-Plus,
1) I am having a LOT of trouble using Virtual with MetaStock v6.52
and Windows 98. If I have a large layout of 20
symbols using Virtual data and expand inner windows or zoom in and out,
MetaStock will appear to freeze. This
occurs after some use. MetaStock will freeze for about a minute as
though it has crashed, then correct itself.

This is beginning to get irritating. Today I was chatting with
someone online about a stock with only ONE (1) symbol
using Virtual data, and it happened again. Once this freezing
starts, it will occur again very quickly even if I exit both
MetaStock and Virtual and come back. The funny thing is that it
happens quicker with the same symbol. I used a different
symbol and I did not get the freezing. However, I believe if I had
used the new symbol for some time, the freezing would still
have occurred.

I opened a very large layout of 24 symbols without Virtual in memory,
expanded and restored inner windows, etc..., and
everything was also OK. The data in this large layout did not use
Virtual data. It was Yahoo data. I will try this again and
see if it still happens but it seems OK with non-Virtual data.

The problem seems to occur quicker when I have large layouts of over 12
symbols after I have expanded and restored inner
windows or zoomed in and out. Virtual seems to have trouble when
all that data is in memory and it takes a long time to sift
through it. When MetaStock freezes, I am able to switch to other
applications and use them normally. After MetaStock
unfreezes, I am able to go back and use MetaStock. However, I will
continue to get freezing problems. Please fix this
problem.

I called Microsoft about this problem. They advised me to use their
diagnostic program MSCONFIG. You run
MSCONFIG in Windows 98, choose "Selective StartUp" and uncheck
all of the "Process" boxes. This gives you a "clean
boot". I also took a small Norton Utilities 3 program away
called "SYMEVNT". Even with a clean boot, I still got
this
freezing. There is NOTHING in memory which can be causing
this. The Microsoft tech support person told me it was a QP
Virtual problem. Does Virtual have a problem in Windows 98 and the
new MetaStock v6.52? I don't believe I ever had
this problem with MetaStock v6.5.

For me, your Virtual program is your best feature. Please fix this
program.
Hang on ... the upgrade from 3.5r5 to 4.0 is coming out in a couple of
weeks.
It will be interesting to see which direction OT will be going in the
future.
more speed (It's very fast now). More tests (it's got more than enough now)
Big problem is that "looney" buy/sell signals are erased on the next update
... so that the "signals" always look great. Not so ... at "decision time".
But I like the program. It was down for a couple of weeks as a result of the
"patch" mess and I really missed it. Weird!
Best regards
Walter
