QP2 and Industry Groups

John, Quotes-Plus2 supplies the IRL indexes in their database which you may access via their "virtual" program.  No data is on paper.  Stocks and IRL daily indexes are updated daily.  All data, including the IRL indexes, can be loaded into Metastock. You can use the QP Scan Database feature to output a list of all IRL indexes.  Every weekend a large 1 MB file is downloaded.  I'm not sure if the Indexes are changed every week.  I'll have to call QP and ask them if the composition or number of IRL daily indexes changes.  While you cannot create custom indexes, you can use this output list to compare stats of industry groups to one another.  Using this list as an input to a new scan, you can create programs in Scan Database.  You can also add any output list from Scan Database to your "Virtual" database and then access the list of securities in Metastock.  This would then allow you to run Explorations.  This is assuming, of course, you remember your programming from college. I have spend most of my time working with Metastock and haven't had the chance to fully explore QP2's features.  It does seem very promising.  One word of advice.  If you do install QP2, make sure you update QP2 and your Virtual immediately via their web page http://www.qp2.com/download.htm .  When I was running scans tonight, my system was constantly freezing.  After 4 reboots, I finally did my third upgrade.  Now it works. If you are using QP2 now or plan to install it, please contact QP and ask them to enhance their Scan Database program.  It is missing one key feature.  It doesn't let you do relative strength comparisions between 2 securities or allow simultaneous loading of several securities.   Daniel Martinez   John Sellers wrote: Is that IRL list in a file or on paper that Quotes Plus sent you?  I have been thinking about their contents. I use IRL program to make special indices of the better stocks in a group as most of us would not usually just pick out the worst ones in any particular group. Of course it is more expensive this way since it becomes necessary to purchase the software disk from IRL or Equis who also sell them. My thoughts are if you start out with a stronger group to pick from the probability of success is enhanced. I have not compared the different ways so it remains philosophically. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Subject:  Re: stock list by industry     Date:  Sun, 18 Oct 1998 22:43:56 -0700    From:  Denis Trover John, QuotesPlus 2 allows one to make up a list of all (or some of the) stocks within an IRL group and to easily look at charts of each member of the group.  You can also write a scan which will select all of the stocks that fit almost any technical and many fundamental requirements and then add the group that each stock is in to output list, i.e. you can get a list of all stocks that are  within 10% of their 52 week highs and then sort this list into groups.  If you do not use IRL for anything more than to determine what stocks are in a group, QP2 will replace IRL for you.  However, you can not rank the groups within QP2 as can be done in IRL. I hope that this has answered your question.  If you need further information please write.                                          Denis Trover      - Camarillo, CA <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<   -----Original Message----- From: Daniel Martinez To: metastock@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ; URNMOR@xxxxxxx Date: Sunday, October 18, 1998 12:17 PM Subject: Re: stock list by industry >If you are willing to switch data providers, Quotes-Plus2 http://www.qp2.com >automatically divides all stocks by industries.  There are about 200.  Each industry >group has its own "virtual" directory which you access via their Virtual program in >Metastock.  Each industry group also has its own IRL index which is given to you by QP >free.  All of the index prices are updated daily and, I believe, their composition is >updated on weekends.  With QP2, you not only get inexpensive daily updates, but you >also eliminate the need to purchase the separate IRL program (unless you wish to create >custom indexes). > >Daniel. > > >A.J.
