Probably the most important advice was to reinstall all
windows programs, not to use file transfer programs like Clean Sweep and to
start with a clean disk.. I had already started to transfer some programs
and saw the intrinsic problems such as all the garbage in the registry also gets
transferred.

I looked at some of the programs that were suggested, but they
didn't seem to offer enough over a direct cable connection to justify a
purchase. However the direct cable connection was at times
temperamental. Sometimes it would come up ready to go when the computers
were started, sometimes not. It ended up that I could only use my older
computer as a host and my newer computer as a guest, it could not be set up in
the opposite direction. However I was able to transfer data easily and to
share resources. I couldn't get printer sharing as I was using the
parallel ports for the direct cable connection, serial ports are too slow to use
for data transfer. Yesterday a friend loaned me 2 network interface cards and I
was able to set up a local network of 2 computers. This is stable and allows
full sharing of resources. The cost of network cards is comparable to the
cost of software, such as laplink. The cost of network cards ranged from
$100 to $250 in Houston, TX.

Brooke,
I like the eye saving background you use in your charts. Can you turn this
background off when printing the charts in color?
