Allen,
I think you are speaking about a different problem with Telescan than
John is. John is getting his data but with the decimal point shifted.
You are getting some data, but being dropped at random during the
collection. Totally different situations.
Your problem is very perplexing, but you are not alone. There are
several customers we are aware of with this problem. It does not matter
what network you use to connect to Telescan either. It makes no
difference as to time of day or where you are located. In your
particular case, we at Equis tried everything we could think of that
MIGHT be a cause. Nothing corrected the situation. Telescan thought
you were the only person with the problem. We showed them you were not.
In fact, each time we hear from another customer having this same
problem, we forward all the information to Telescan.
We have tried to duplicate the problem with each ID in an attempt to try
and pinpoint what might be the cause. We have yet to been able to
duplicate it. The collection is proceeding normally and then suddenly
the connection is dropped. Telescan has a programmer looking into the
issue as do we. At this point, we can find nothing wrong with the
transmissions from The DownLoader. In fact, we have not changed the
Telescan collection in The DownLoader since we released version 6.0 yet
the problem you are seeing started about 4 weeks ago.
John's problem is new to us. But, it appears Telescan knows about it
and has accepted the fact the problem apparently exists at their end.
Hopefully, that problem will be resolved in short order. I am hopeful
that they will also determine the cause of your problem. We have
offered all help we are able to give them.

Subject: Re: What's worse than no data? !
Allen, Bill, Chris and All...
I am aware of the other data problems that have existed for a long time,
like data "spikes" where the high or low is a mile from the close/open.
I have taken the time every now and then to scan with the explorer for
these problems and manually go in and correct the files. I know Reuters
has some kind of correcting mechanism to solve this problem
automatically and if the problems have been resolved with the ID800
thing I might just give them a try, as Bill N. in Milwaukee has
suggested.
Thanks everybody for the different responses reiterating the same
problems I'm having. At least I'm not in the poor situation of folks who
have AIQ like Bill Saxon with only Telescan or Dial Data, (Bill, I have
heard even worse things about Dial Data over the years). Thanks Chris
from New Zealand on Stockwiz, I'll check them out before I try Reuters.
One more thing, maybe Bill can help with this, I need a list of
indeces(dow, s&p, vix, adv/dec, trin, etc.) and the symbols that Reuters
uses before I switch. A while back I was discouraged with Telescan and
checked with Reuters for such a list, got the runaround, they said they
would mail one only after I subscribed, never got one and stuck with
crappy Telescan data. Does a list of symbols exist on a web sight or
could someone with a file attach it to a post?
It doesn't seem to be that hard to find bad data when I download, just
me and my little computer and Metastock. With the resourses Telescan
has, I don't see how they manage to miss all the bad data, amazing!
Thanks again... John
