I you put a shortcut in your "C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp"
to the program: C:\WINDOWS\RSRCMTR.EXE
or otherwise run rsrcmtr.exe, it will put a gas gauge in the tray. When it
loses it's green your headed for trouble. While not a fix I find it makes the
problem more manageable.
