Harley, to follow up, I have just had the best tech support experience with
Microsoft I have ever had with any vendor- I spent about an hour with a
genius tech guy who fixed all my problems when I was about to throw this
computer out the window and buy a new one. The problem was a knotty
internet connectivity one related to winsock.dll's and related dll's like
wsock32.dll, etc.
Bottom line, with my new video card and this "fix", Win 98 now appears to be
running smoothly. I need only finish reinstalling the last dozen or so
programs that don't work and I'll be back in business.
By the way, I could never get thru on the no-cost tech support lines- I used
the 900 number [two separate times] for $35 per call, and it was well worth
it. The one Compaq $19.95 call was worthless- All they could come up with
was format the hard drive!
The last 5 days have been bad- tonight, i am relaxing!
