[amibroker] Problem importing amiquote data for new symbols

I'm new to Amibroker and am having a small but critical problem.  

When I download EOD data for new symbols in amiquote and then import it into Amibroker, it doesn't appear in the open database - even if I do auto-update from the tools menu no data for new symbols gets imported into Amibroker.

I've tried saving the database with the new symbols, closing Amibroker, reopening database, re-importing the data and it still doesn't appear.

When data is imported into Amibroker, does it update all open databases?

Is there a log file somewhere that might show why the import is not working?
