You can't get one anywhere.

A lot of us were using a template provided by Jim Swindle but he
seems to be too busy to maintain it these days (search for " US -
Stocks" post at the UKB).

We now have to rely on manually producing and maintaining our own
lists (using ASCII import etc).

Dingo has some experience with template software for AB - he might be
prepared to sell a version if you email him privately.

MLDownloader is another Yahoo data collector that produces Metastock
files (also suitable for AB).

AB has its own proprietry format - except for a handful of providers
on the approved list, very few know anything about it.

Once data is imported into AB, with local storage enabled, it will be
saved in AB format in the AB folder (refer to UKB for examples).

Data can be imported into AB via plugins (maintained by AB) OR via
ASCII import (refer Wizard or ASCII import >> file menu) OR via a
metastock plugin (seamlessly reads MS format files).

AmiQuote downloads to an intermediate file (it is a .tls file but is
actually in plain text format - also compatible with CSV files)

AQ does all of that automatically if auto import to AB is selected.

note: ASCII is the basis of AmiQuote and manual import/export if data.

MLDownloader is supposed to do this automatically - AQ does not.

Most people take two different paths:

- subscribe to providers who do that for us
- manually update symbols lists e.g. people who have been around a
while tend to use fewer symbols OR have a need for specialist anyway
so are prepared to manually look after the lists (lists are scratched
up from anywhere and every where - Howard has some list links at his
QuantitativeTrading site).

The only universal format that AB can import/export is ASCII.

MS format can also be read by AB and many other software packages (AB
can't produce MS files but you can buy software data convertors for
ASCII to MS).

download all Stock-EFT etc. Historical data from Yahoo and then want

and I don't know anything about programming, but hope to learn a lot
from this group. So I have a few questions to get me started.
