In IQFeed there is a difference between sending updates futures and stocks (etfs). Futures quotes are sent 24 hours the same way (in regular last trade field).

For stocks pre/after hour updates are not sent in regular format, so "last" is unchanged, while there are separate fields for pre/after market.

This is because of the fact that in the past IQFeed did not have pre/after hours market data in the backfill for stocks. Backfill changed but  streaming data still use old format.

Special handling for this would need to be added.

hmmm maybe I have to set the daily time compression to "Day/Night session times as defined above". I have it set to "exchange time" at the moment. Set this way I get for instance the QQQQ data updating real time exactly at 9:30 ET but the data before 9:30 are not updated in the chart automatically.  However, my Interactive Brokers data base I have set the same way and this is updating my quotes before 9:30 ET. My IB database updates pre market, during market hours and afterhours. IQFeed only during market hours. I'll try playing with the "daily time compression".

What symbols are you trying to get data for...? when you say pre -
afterhour data what exactly do you mean...? When I talk about 24 hour
prices I'm referrring to those that are traded on Globex such at the
ES contract.

In your 'intraday setttings' what's you 'daily time compression uses'
section set to...?

When I use force backfill the data is there but it doesn't update
automatically outside regular market hours. I asked IQFeed and they
say it is not on their side and that they can't get it to work with
Amibroker also. My intraday settings are "Show 24 hours data".
