Thanks Mike, I don't always know what to call things.

I used to post a lot on a forum for the Zone diet many years ago. It
had the immediacy of email because frequent posters had a web page
open to it just like it was email and responded right away. I made a
cheat sheet that simplified a lot of data that could be printed two
sided and kept in the kitchen. However, back then no attachments were
available, so I had to post everything in HTML tables (which kept
breaking) and tell people to email me if they wanted me to send them a
PDF file they could print out. That was 4 years ago. As of last week
I still have requests coming for the PDF version, and I have not been
active on that forum for years. It just proves that useful
information can be organized in a way that is easy to find by new
people even years later in a live forum. However, if I could have
attached the PDF file to that post, I would never have realized how
many people found my contributions worth having over the years.

Right now, I use the email option for this list exclusively. I find
the Yahoo group interface unworkable for me. I save all the messages
(except deleting extraneous ones) so I can search locally before
asking a question.

However, I could get real excited about the possibilities of a good
forum environment --especially with the list of features of this one.
Good searching, attached screenshots, organized by subject, and as
easy as email to traverse and respond to. Non-relevant posts could be
deleted once the issues were cleared up. Posts could be reassigned to
the proper forums or threads when needed. Erroneous posts could be
edited with the correct information. A much nicer world for a newbie
to come into after the fact to find useful information to their
questions. This new forum system seems like a big leap forward.

Unfortunately I don't expect it to get a majority --people do not
usually vote for change without powerful convincing arguments. I
don't see any push for discussing all the pro and cons of this new
forum system first before voting.

However, it would be an interesting experiment to have this new forum
environment instead of the current UKB environment. Outside of a
couple of valuable posters, the UKB has not been an environment that
has attracted contributions like It should have --and it is not
because people do not have things to share. If a good forum
environment were available I would bet an AB license that it would
grow to replace this list due to its greater utility. I know I would
switch in an instant if a few of the frequent posters would post to
it. Otherwise, I would monitor both. If I were a newbie, it would be
my first stop to see what was available.

BR,
Dennis
