I don't know..... I have only ever used MSFT as the OS:

- I have never read their manuals
- never experienced an instance where their programs didn't work e.g.
MS Office
- never experienced an OS malfunction (AFAIK)
- haven't called a technician in three years
- never emailed MS support ever

I just keep clicking away and seldom get stuck.

They must be doing something right.

I think MSFT makes great software.

My naive understanding is that they 'do the thinking' for the masses
but also give plenty to computer specialists (if you ask me the
masses love it when their thinking done for them).

Seems to me that they do a pretty good job of satisfying most of the
needs, of most of their customers, most of the time.

More often than not they provide means to turn of the 'talking
paperclips' OR third party workarounds soon surface e.g. tweakuac -
thanks to their mainstream mass appeal the large number of users
encourages the development of an extensive aftermarket (perhaps that
is part of their plan).
