Good question.
First, I am not out to create the need by talking it up.
People are either satisfied with what we have, or they are not.
They want to do something about it, or they don't (it appears that
they don't because there are no new messages in my mailbox, which is
OK by me).
I take your point that many would see the ATP as a duplicate and
wasted effort etc.
I did outline some of the points of difference at 'my' site.
Note: my host appears to be down at the moment, which is what you get
with an amateur production - I picked the first host from a 'webhost
review page' but the intention is to move quickly to a quality host
anyway.
It is only my personal perception - a couple of examples:
- the UKB is owned and administered by AmiBroker, whereas the ATP is
a community owned project
- the UKB can't be extended without agreement from Tomasz and he is
too busy to spend much time on it
- what Tomasz is supplying, for free, at the UKB is very basic and
better hosting packages can be purchased elsewhere, for a small fee,
and he won't have to do any admin
- this messageboard is owned by AmiBroker, and hosted by Yahoo, and
nothing can be extended here.
...and so on
One of the main points of difference is that the UKB was a non-
commercial community effort site and only 4 people from 7000 wanted
to join in.
Was that because they didn't want to, were too busy or found the site
unattractive or too hard to use?
I am addressing the latter point and giving people the option to
say, "yes I will contribute if the site is easier to use and I don't
have to sign an AmiBroker contract".
There is another group of people who might want to join in if the
site is higher quality and they can tag their contributions with
their commercial moniker (a not unreasonable request).
So that is the group I am targeting:
people who like to control their own destiny and/or people who would
like to participate but can't because they have, or would like to
have, commercial interests.
If they are not interested then no-one is interested.
I can assure you that what we can have and what we do have are a
million miles apart (please use your imagination to fill in the gap).
