Brian,

I guess I have a significant advantage in that I work exclusively in
OS X (except for AmiBroker running in a virtual PC XP machine).
PDF is built into everything. Printing to PDF files is standard. The
Apple iWork Pages'08 word processor I use can export
as .pdf, .doc, .rtfd, or .txt. It also has auto TOC generation.

OSX 10.5 comes with 'Preview' a default viewer for most image formats
and PDF is the standard. It also lets me mark up PDFs, merge
different PDF files and rearrange pages in PDF documents.

My default browser (Safari) opens PDF files directly in the browser
without going through a download (it is just in the Browser cache).
My Google searches turn up PDF files all the time. I just click on
them and my search terms are highlighted in the displayed page, so
Google must be able to find them in the .pdf docs. I think it is
because they have a PDF to HTML converter built into the Google
engine, but I prefer to display the fully formated PDFs.

My system eats and breaths the PDF format, and I don't have any Adobe
products involved.

It is no wonder that I want to do ALL my work with this tool set.
Believe me, it was quite painful for me to try working in WordPress
after being spoiled with these tools. It felt like doing carpentry
with rocks for hammers.

I don't know what is best for others, but I do know what is good for
me when I see it.

I hope you find the tools that fit you perfectly.

Best regards,
Dennis
