Jim,
IMO the most important thing of all, is that when AB is installed
everyone can setup a database - that is why I went to so much trouble
to write extra notes on the subject.
Yes, it is totally frustrating if you aren't getting data.
I can't guarantee that I can help but I will try everything I know -
I suggest we try everything we can one more time.
If we still have no success then it is time to go to Ami Support.
I have found AB incredibly stable and even though I am rather naive
about OS etc I never have this type of problem.
It is unlikely to be a stability issue (always possible I suppose) -
let's eliminate all other possibilities first.

No, that is nothing to do with it.
Registration allows users to access some additional features but
basic downloading/importing data works fine.
You might have accidentally changed something from the install
condition but before we do a reinstall could you please try something.
STEP 1
Please open the database that AB was shipped with and tell me if you
can see charts in daily view?
STEP 2
a) create a new blank database - EOD - local enabled - check load
this database at startup.
b) call it Data_Test so we are both talking about the same thing.
c) go to Symbol >> new and type in ^DJI, BA, CAT then hit OK (the
symbols will appear in your ALL list.
d) leave AB open and open AmiQuote
e) open AmiQuote and select Tools >> get tickers from AmiBroker
Do you get the tickers ^DJI, BA, CAT in the AQ window?
f) download data for those tickers exactly as shown by Tomasz (I know
you said you did and I know you aren't stupid - I'm just being
careful with our communication because this is our one and only go at
it).
i.e - the tickers are waiting to download
- change the "From" date to get one month of data (the to date will
automatically be today).
- check automatic import
- select Yahoo historical server
- hit the green "start download" arrow
I have just done that and I am lookng at my charts for those three
symbols.
When you say:
"> I made sure that the file name in Amiquote matched the name of the
> file that was open in Amibroker(MyNewData)."
What do you mean?
What did you do there?
(I have never had to bother with things like that).
Try the above and see where we get to.
I will be in all day today and tomorrow.
When I give up I will let you know and then you can email support
about firewalls etc.
