To clarify point 7.
How could any individual personally keep up with name changes etc and
find time to trade?
Everybody buys that info, including Yahoo, (Yahoo suppliers are
listed at their site).
The only exception might be alpha-techs who can quickly and easily
script up custom processes.
The sophistication of stock tracking varies between suppliers so if
you want more you pay more.
If you have specialist needs then you have to customise to some
extent, but your needs should drive the process e.g. don't worry
about sector classification until you develop an interest in sector
trading.
Special interest trading would be the only reason to manage any of it
personally.
In that case, you still have to get the basic info from somewhere;
buy it or scrape it from a site.
I don't know how many ways there are to go about custom management of
symbols.
Customising broker and industry lists is the basic starting point.
