It's probably asking for trouble, remember, something IS corrupt.
cleaning up once in a while is GOOD.

You can try "save My settings" of all Microsoft office applications
(to your data disk).
after reinstall you'll be able to recover all your preferences/
customizations,
BIG time saver (for me).

Few other applications have that feature unfortunately.

Thanks Joseph ... looks like I have to re-install XP

I have my apps and data on different drives from system, so am safe
for loss of data.

Do you know if there is a way to automatically register all
applications so I won't have to re-install those also?

Thanks

Ara

try running CMD.exe from your root folder then :

ATTRIB -R [drive:] /S /D

If this does not fix it you have a bigger problem. Didn't you have
another bizarre behavior just recently?
You may want to consider re-installing Win XP (after backing up
important data). Do not mark any drives
as private! (leave defaults)

I have every file folder and subfolder marked as read only, even
though the files within these folder are normal (not read only).

Removing the read only check from folder properties, does nothing.
Next time I look at its properties, it is again marked as read only.

This seems to causing problems with making backups.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Ara
